Well Control and Blow Out !!!

Many people ask us every time about well control but many of them understand that well control is when the rigs are burn. This is not the right concept.

Well Control is a situation when hydrostatic pressure in a wellbore is less than formation pressure therefore reservoir fluid will come into a well. If a well control situation is not taking care of properly, it will result in blow like you can see in the VDO below.

The short VDO, only 1 minute and 34 seconds, clearly show that what will be happening if the well cannot be control.

Blow Out on The Rig Floor VDO

This short VDO will show you how fast of the kick blowing out to the surface. It is worth for your time to watch and learn from this 57-second vdo.

We don’t know detail about it why this was happened but we can learn from this incident.

  • Always monitoring the well while drilling
  • Be proactive of well control indicators
  • Frequent well control drills are recommended to perform.
  • Emergency abandon rig drills must be practiced often.
  • Escape route plan while being on the rig floor
  • Try to be away from the rig floor if you don’t have any tasks involving in drilling operation at that time
  • Always prepare for unexpected situations.
